The Angband Editor is a freeware editor for the info files used to 
customize the the game Angband and its variants. Angband is a freeware
roguelike computer roleplaying game. This document lists frequently
asked questions and answers.

This FAQ is available with the program.  It is also available on the
Angband Editor web site.

2. General questions

2.1 What is the Angband Editor?
---------------------------------------------------------------------

The Angband Editor is a freeware editor for the info text files used
to customize Angband and its variants. It is based on source from
standard [Vanilla] Angband 2.9.1.

2.2 On what computers can I use it?
---------------------------------------------------------------------

The only pre-built executable available is for Windows 95/98/NT. In 
the future it will also be available for MS-DOS and Windows 3.1. The 
Editor should compile on any system which Angband will compile on.

2.4 What variants can it edit?
---------------------------------------------------------------------

The Editor can currently only edit files for Vanilla 2.8.1-2.9.1 and 
Zangband 2.2.1. Files for other variants, including other versions of
these two, can be edited as long as there are no unknown flags used.

Later versions will be able to create custom variants and handle 
unknown flags dynamically.

2.5 What is the legal status of the Angband Editor?

The Angband Editor is free software; it can be distributed according
to the rules laid long ago by Robert A. Koeneke for his (U)Moria game.
See version.txt in the /lib/help directory for details (free distrib-
ution for noncommercial purposes providing the copyright notices are
retained throughout the game). Source code must be made available
together with any compiled binaries.

2.6 Can I modify the Angband Editor?

Yes. Source code is freely available.

The editor is designed to modify most Angband variants using a diff.
Diffs are available for several variants. Most of the editor is in 
files separate from the Angband source files.

However, I would like to integrate all changes to the editor into this
version, so everyone can use them. If you port the editor to a new 
system or make a change you think is useful, please let me know.

7.1 The Editor Help File
---------------------------------------------------------------------

The Editor help is available from all Editor screens, whether or not
the '?' menu option shows in the current menu.
This help file is a text file named "Editor.txt" and can be opened in
any text editor. It is found in directory "\lib\Help".

7.2 Newsgroups
---------------------------------------------------------------------

The usenet newsgroup "rec.games.roguelike.angband" is for discussing
issues Angband and its variants, including the Editor.

"rec.games.roguelike.developer" is for discussing development issues,
for all roguelikes, not just Angband variants. In practice, most
Angband related information is in "r.g.r.a" instead of this group.
